The Rotary Club of Volcano held it’s 15th annual installation of new officers on June 19, 2016 at the Kilauea Military Camp in Hawaii Volcanos National Park. Also honored were the recipients of the Rotary Youth Foundation Scholarship and the Mike Nelson Scholarship.

The incoming President is Julie Williams. Ms. Williams had a distinguished career in education and looks forward to heading up Rotary service projects on behalf of the Volcano School of Arts and Sciences. Working with Julie on the 2016-2017 board of directors is outgoing President Lynda Gretz, Treasurer John Tyler, Secretary Carol Hamilton, Foundation Chair Charlene Myers and Sargents-at-Arms Lindsay Barclay and Roger Schweitzer.

Kevin Lebourdais, Scholarship Chair, introduced this year’s scholarship winners: Yukio Ishii won the Mike Nelson scholarship in the amount of $2,000 and Christina Ulep-Samonte was awarded the $5000 Hawaii Youth Foundation Scholarship. Both will be attending University of Hawaii-Hilo this fall. These scholarships are awarded each year by the Rotary Club of Volcano.

Service projects in our village community and fundraising for scholarships for local students are the main focus of the Rotary Club. Coming up on September 5 is the annual Labor Day Lobster Fest which provides funds for scholarships, as well as providing the Volcano community with a gala event of food, music, door prizes and fun. This event is held at Cooper Center and tickets will become available in August.

The Rotary Club of Volcano meets on Thursday mornings at 7:30 am in the Koa Room at KMC Headquarters. Join us and see how Rotary can enrich your life with service and sociability.
